P.P. Maharshi Punitachariji Maharaj
A Spiritual Soul
Poojya Bapushree’s life was a divine example of total surrender and unwavering devotion to Lord Dattatreya. Sacrificing worldly attachments at a young age, he dedicated every breath to the pursuit of the eternal truth and the upliftment of humanity.
His tapasya and sadhana were marked by extraordinary discipline, years of deep meditation and silence where nature himself became witness to his union with the Supreme. Through his inner journey, he attained the highest realization of Sahaja siddha yoga.
Bapushree never sought spiritual powers for himself. His only desire was to reduce the suffering of mankind. His heart overflowed with compassion, and his prayers were always for others to find peace, joy, and liberation in their lives.
Pleased by his selfless devotion, Lord Dattatreya revealed to him the Divine Maha Mantra on 15 November 1975 a sacred gift for all souls seeking light amidst worldly darkness. Today, even after fifty years, that divine grace continues to guide countless seekers on the path of inner awakening.
Originally born as Parasnath Pandey in Uttar Pradesh, P.P. Punitachariji Maharaj, affectionately known as Bapushree, was destined for a life of deep spiritual purpose. From an early age, his heart was drawn toward higher truth and self-realisation, setting the foundation for his divine journey.
From his earliest years, every moment seemed guided by an unseen divine force. His simple rural roots cultivated humility, purity, and an unshaken inner discipline. Even as a child, his nature leaned toward silence and introspection rather than worldly distractions.
These early impressions quietly prepared him for the intense spiritual path that awaited him.
Even as a young boy, Bapushree inclined toward spirituality and compassion for all beings. His early curiosity about the mysteries of existence and devotion to Lord Dattatreya shaped his inner awakening. At the tender age of eighteen, he sacrificed worldly life and left for the Himalayas in pursuit of divine wisdom. His path eventually led him to Mount Girnar in Gujarat, where he meditated in a secluded cave near Jatashankar for nearly twelve years spending up to eighteen hours daily in deep samadhi.
His early devotion naturally deepened into unwavering discipline and self-restraint. Spiritual experiences in his youth strengthened his faith and sharpened his inner focus. Each moment of contemplation drew him closer to the truth he was seeking. These childhood influences became the solid foundation for the profound sakshatkar he would later receive.
A respected scholar of Sanskrit, philosophy, and yoga, Bapushree pursued his higher education in Kashi (Varanasi), earning high regard as a Sanskrit professor. Yet, his quest extended beyond intellectual mastery, it was driven by a longing for ultimate truth. His devotion led him to a divine vision on 15 November 1975, when Lord Dattatreya appeared before him and blessed him with the sacred mantra “Hari Om Tat Sat Jai Guru Datta.”
Through his teachings and simplicity, Bapushree established a living spiritual tradition, guiding seekers toward peace through Sahaja Dhyan (effortless meditation) and bridging divine grace with human.
The Divine Sakshatkar of Bapushree
The Great Sage
When a heart is steady in faith, the higher truth reveals itself naturally. Bapushree’s sacred awakening reflects how divine presence responds to pure commitment.
Bapushree’s spiritual journey reached its turning point when he experienced a direct and transformative sakshatkar with Lord Dattatreya. In that divine moment, he received the sacred Mahamantra, a revelation that awakened within him an inner stillness and a deeper clarity of purpose. This experience became the foundation of his lifelong dedication to self-realisation and service. It marked the beginning of a connection that shaped his path with unshakable devotion and grace.
During this divine encounter, Bapushree did not ask for personal gain. Instead, he prayed for peace, harmony, and upliftment for all beings. His selfless intention reflected the purity of his heart and the depth of his surrender. The Mahamantra he received became a symbol of universal blessing, one that guided not just him, but everyone who came under his spiritual influence.
The mantra, bestowed directly by the Guru, became the central pillar of his daily sadhana. Through continuous chanting and meditation, Bapushree embodied the essence of inner discipline, divine alignment, and unwavering faith. This sacred vibration connected him to the expansive presence of Lord Dattatreya and served as a guiding force in every step of his spiritual work.
Even today, the remembrance of this sakshatkar inspires seekers to walk the path of devotion with sincerity. At the Girnar Sadhana Ashram, the mantra is honored through collective chanting, reflection, and seva, reminding everyone that divine grace flows naturally where humility and dedication reside. Bapushree’s experience stands as a testament that with a pure heart, the highest guidance reveals itself.
